Several people are feared dead following a bus accident along the Lyantonde-Masaka Kampala highway this morning.

The accident involved a Horizon bus registration number UAM 937T.

According to the Police District Commander Lwengo District Assy Mukundane, the accident occurred at around 2.30am, when the speeding bus failed to negotiate a corner at Kyazanga.

He says the bus knocked a pavement, overturning several times before catching fire that saw it burn entirely.

The number of the dead remains unknown but the police describes the situation at the scene as horrific, with arms and legs of the deceased seen hanging through windows.

26 of the survivors who are in critical condition are being hospitalized at Masaka hospital, while 11 others are at Lyantonde hospital.

8 patients were rushed to Lukwago Clinic in Kyazanga, where one person identified as 26 year old Safari Harriet has died this morning.

The police have attributed the accident to reckless driving on the part of the bus driver.
