The Magistrates Court in Sembabule District has sent to remand six people accused of stealing 60 meters of wire mesh fence at President Yoweri Museveni’s farm.

Prosecution alleges that on December 11, 2016 Umaru Mugerwa, Coleb Ahimbisibwe, Yokaana Muwanguzi, Jereme Semugenyi, Godwin Arinaitwe, Isa Mutabike and Charles Serwadda, attacked President Museveni’s farm at Kisozi in Gomba district and stolen the fence.

Records before court indicates that the stolen wire mesh is worth shillings 58 million.

The group however, pleaded not guilty to the charges asking court to grant them bail.

However, Mugerwa Umaru, one of the accused people pleaded guilty to the charges saying that he did not know that the wire mesh he stolen belonged to president Museveni saying that he has not benefited from programs intended to fight poverty in his area.

Doreen Ajuna, Sembabule district Grade one Magistrate however, denied the group’s bail application saying that the accused people lacked substantial sureties adjourning the case to January 17, 2017.
