The leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga has revealed that opposition will hold a meeting on Thursday to agree on who to front for the speakership race set for Friday this week.

“The Shadow Cabinet agreed this morning to continue with consultations with other stakeholders ahead of the Opposition Caucus meeting on Thursday to agree on upcoming elections for Speaker of Parliament,” he tweeted.

The position of the Speaker fell vacant on Sunday death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah who died in Seattle.

Mpuuga eulogized Oulanyah in a tweet saying, “It’s with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of the Speaker Paliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah. Deepest condolences to his family, friends, the Parliamentary fraternity, the people of Omoro & NRM that he served as V/Cman for Northern Uganda.”

Opposition Chief  Whip in the 11th Parliament, Hon John Nambeshe  said Oulanyah mooted a special debate on the Uganda we want with wisdom and foresight.

“With wisdom and foresight, he had mooted a special debate on “The Uganda We Want”. We honor his legacy and mourn his loss alongside his family and friends. May His Soul Rest in Peace,” he said.
