Veteran Sports journalist Andrew Patrick Luwandagga has passed on.

Luwandaga has been a sports journalist working with national broadcaster Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) television, where he was the head of the sports and current affirs department.

UBC Spokesperson Mr. Rafsanjan Abbey Tatya confirmed the news of his death this morning describing it as a great blow to the company and Uganda’s sports fraternity.

He describes the late Luwandagga as a skilled and hardworking person who has made a significant contribution to the nation.

“The body of the deceased has now been taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem”, said Mr. Tatya.

He said at the time of his death, the late Luwandagga was in negotiations for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) tournament due next year and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mr. Patrick Kanyomozi the General Secretary of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has described Luwandagga’s death as a serious blow to not just the sports fraternity but the broadcasting industry as well.

“Anyone who has watched UBC knows Luwandagga as one of the big names and the faces of television and sports in Uganda”, Mr. Kanyomozi tells KFM.

Meanwhile at his home in Namasuba, a Kampala surburb, scores of mourners have started gathering to condole with the bereaved family.
