Although a country with a trophy cabinet that fails to display any recent success in the AFCON, Uganda’s love and devotion to the beautiful game can never be questioned. For millions of Ugandans, football, the most important of the least important things, is a great passion and a source of unmatched happiness that gives hope to the entire nation.

Ugandans can be very proud of all the success in the CECAFA Cup,  the oldest football tournament in Africa, however, the AFCON situation is a bit more complicated. Our beloved Cranes failed to qualify for the last stage of the previous African Cup of Nations and are in a difficult situation again after earning only one point from the first two qualification matches.

However, the competition is far from over, and judging by the squad, The Cranes are more than capable of qualifying for the tournament and making the nation proud. Uganda is producing a large number of football talents that are demonstrating the nation’s strength and passion on international football pitches all across the globe. Before we move on to the top 5 current Uganda football players, here is where football fans looking for the finest place to test their football knowledge can check the best Betting Sites Uganda 2023.

Denis Onyango

It’s hard to make any football-related conversation in Uganda without mentioning the name of this absolute legend, with whom qualifying for the 2017 African Cup Of Nations would have remained just a dream. Although many would argue that his best days are already behind him, football experts would assure you that Denis Onyango is a part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad for a reason. As product owner – Tony Sloterman says, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Herbert Bockhorn

Born to a Ugandan mother and a German father, Herbert Bockhorn spent most of his youth career as a part of Werder Bremen’s youth system. Although the career of this pacey attacking-minded right-back had ups and downs, his experience in the Bundesliga puts him ahead of the other Ugandan players in the same position. Bockhorn is currently under a contract with 1. FC Magdeburg in the German second tier and is yet to make his debut.

Bevis Mugabi

Thanks to his aerial presence and ability to read the game well, the name Bevis Mugabi became synonymous with steady defensive performances in the top flight of Scottish football. Although he is yet to find his form this year, the Motherwell center-back was one of the most prominent defenders last season and recorded over 30 appearances for the overachieving Motherwell squad.

Moses Opondo

Moses Opondo is a name that Danish football fans have recently become very aware of. Opondo is a versatile central midfielder capable of taking care of his defensive duties while also being a threat when attacking through the right side of the pitch. Moses is a product of the excellent Danish youth football programs, and this season he has played every single game for his current club, AC Horsens.

Farouk Miya

Çaykur Rizespor is a club that is among the favorites for promotion to the top flight of Turkish football, and a lot of that has to do with the quality of their top-choice attacking midfielder. The 25-year-old Farouk Miya is recovering from a terrible ankle fracture, however, judging by his resume and incredible ability to take players on in the final third, it won’t be long until he starts helping the team clinch promotion with numerous goal contributions.
