State House will no longer offer scholarships to university students starting next financial year.

The State Minister in charge of the Presidency, Richard Todwong has told Members of Parliament that State House will effective next year, stop handing out scholarships.

The scheme was established to cater for the educational needs of children of fallen soldiers and other vulnerable children however legislators today criticized State House for letting the project be tainted by corruption and favoritism in distribution.

While appearing before the Education committee, Todwong says the scheme will be phased out to make way for the loan scheme, in which students will get loans to pay tuition and later pay back government.

About 6 billion shillings has been allocated in the 2013/2014 budget to kick start the loan scheme however no legal framework is in place to operationalize it.
