The ministry of education has widened the scope of the beneficiaries of the student loan scheme to include diploma students.

The scheme introduced last year only catered for about 1,200 under graduate science students and over 5 billion shillings was allocated for that purpose.

The Executive Director Higher Education Student Loans Board Micheal Wanyama says they are now waiting for universities to complete admission of private students to roll out the second phase of the scheme.

He says they have also added three universities of Muni University, Bishop Stuart University and Kabale University on top of the 12 that benefited last year.
