Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo has died

Supreme Mufti Sheik Zubairi Kayongo has died at the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
He died at the age of 81. He was suffering from a combination of Hypertension and Diabetes.
We spoke to Hassan Kirya the spokesperson Kibuli Mosque, who says they are currently locked up in a meeting to discuss how to bring the body back.

Meanwhile, the Imam of Parliament Latif Sebagala says Sheikh Kayongo contributed a lot to the growth of Islam.

The General Secretary in the office of the Supreme Mufti Muhammed Kisambira has described him as a a great and patient leader.

Buganda Kingdom spokesperson Denis Walusimbi says Sheikh Kayongo’s death has come as a great shock.

While Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has described him as apeace maker who endeavored to hold the Muslim fraternity together.
Meanwhile, the official program for the funeral of Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubair Kayongo released by the Kibuli-based faction indicates that Kayongo will be laid to rest on Friday at Rwamata in Kiboga district.
