Ugandans in the Northern and parts Eastern, Central and Western regions have been asked to brace for more heavy rains.

The warning comes as torrential rains continue to cause devastation, death and displacement of hundreds of people in different parts of the country and across the East African Region.

In the May 2024 monthly rainfall update and review of rainfall performance for April 2024 over Uganda, the Uganda National Meteorological Authority [UNMA], Executive director Bob Alex Ogwang, advises the public to prepare adequately to avert challenges associated with heavy rains like floods and mudslisde.

“We will see flash floods and flooding in cities and traditional flood areas a corss the country”, he said.

The latest case is in Kasese where atleast seven people are feared to have died after landslides hit the area this morning

Ogwang adds that the May 2024 rainfall outlook indicates enhanced rainfall over most parts of the country.

However, suppressed rainfall is expected to prevail over some parts of West-Nile.

The UNMA will continue to monitor the evolution of the relevant weather systems and issue appropriate weather alerts, updates and advisories to the users
