Uganda’s only representative at the Paralympic Games David Emong has scooped a silver medal in the men’s T46 1500m final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This is the country’s first ever medal in the history of the Games.

The 26-year-old, who often competes with able-bodied athletes due to lack of local races for his category, crossed the line in 4 minutes and 62 microseconds.

Algerian Nouioua Samir won the three-and-a half-lap race in 3 minutes and 59 seconds.

Emong’s performance was a huge improvement from his display four years ago when he finished fourth at the London Paralympics.

Last year, he won silver at the All Africa Games in Congo Brazaville.
