The United Nations requires at least 1.8 trillion dollars annually to facilitate the implementation of the post 2015 development agenda.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Sam Kutesa has told journalists that the funds will be mobilized to help developing countries to especially work towards achieving social and economic development.
Kutesa adds that the UN is working towards setting in place a fairer international trading regime which allows developing countries access to markets and be in position to fund their own development agenda.
Earlier he met members of the diplomatic community in Uganda and discussed the same.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kuteesa has underscored the need for a world initiative to mitigate effects of climate change.
Speaking at the parliamentary CHOGM gardens where he planted a tree, Kutesa said climate change was real and everybody had a part to play in mitigating its effects.
He says sustainable development and climate change are top of his priorities this year, adding that time is now for everyone to contribute towards ending environment destruction or suffer the consequences.
Meanwhile the Kampala Capital city Authority Executive director Jennifer Musisi said the leadership was committed to ensuring a green city with over 50,000 trees to be planted in the next 5 years.
