UPC Hits Back At LoP Over Shadow Cabinet Appointments

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has scoffed at the Leader of Opposition in Parliament for excluding party members from the shadow cabinet.

Winnie Kiiza yesterday sidelined UPC in the naming of the leadership of the four accountability committees and a 30-member shadow cabinet.

18 FDC MPs, 7 DP and 5 independents will constitute the shadow cabinet.

Kiiza says UPC was left out because the Jimmy Akena faction that controls parliament is in talks with the NRM over the possibility of forming an alliance.

The opposition has also questioned the recent appointment of Akena’s wife Betty Amongi as Lands Minister.

Speaking to KFM, the UPC Secretary General Edward Segganyi says Amongi’s appointment came as a surprise to them as well so the party should not be isolated for it.

Some of those named are Wilfred Niwagaba (Attorney Genera), Allan Ssewanyana (Sports and Creative Arts), Anne Adeke (Youth and Children Affairs), Herbert Ariko (Public Service) , Gilbert Oulanya (Defence and Security), Betty Nambooze (Local Government), Michael Kabaziguruka (KCCA) AND Apolo Kantinti (Information, Communication and ICT)

For the Accountability committees, Soroti Woman MP Angeline Osege takes over the Public Accounts Committee, deputised by FDC-leaning Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga Bugweri County MP Abdul Katuntu takes over the Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE). H eis to be deputised by FDC -leaning Bukedea Woman MPAnita Among.

Obongi County MP Hassan Kaps Fungaroo will lead the Government Assurances Committee and will be deputised by DP -Leaning Kawempe North MP Latiff Ssebaggala.

Aswa County MP Reagan Okumu will lead the Local Government Accounts Committee and deputised by Chwa West County MP Okin Ojara.

Buhweju MP Francis Mwijukye has been seconded to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, while former LoP Moris Ogenga Latigo will go to the Pan African Parliament.
