The UPDF is not about to leave South Sudan, according to Defense minister Dr. Cryspus Kiyonga.

Dr. Kiyonga says the Ugandan troops will not leave the country until the situation is completely back to normal. down.

He says following the signing of a ceasefire agreement, the serious negotiations are expected to start when the peace talks resume on February 7th.

Dr. Kiyonga says Uganda will be monitoring the situation and as long as the threat to Uganda’s security remains, UPDF will not leave.

The government has welcomed reports that the Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony is ready to end rebellion.

This follows media reports that Kony has expressed willingness to sign a peace deal that could end the over 20 year rebellion.

Defence minister Dr Cryspus Kiyonga says if these reports are true, government is more than ready to welcome him.

He says government played its part and ensured that the 2 -year negotiations in Juba were concluded and even the agreement signed.

Dr Kiyonga now says the onus remains with Kony to append his signature to the agreement.
