As the world marks World Health day, the United States government has lamented over the increasing cases of preventable diseases in Uganda.
In a statement, US Ambassador to Uganda, Scott DeLisi notes that despite tremendous progress made in the health sector, malaria, HIV and TB continue to be the leading causes of death and disability in Uganda.
Currently, nearly 1.5 million Ugandans are living with HIV, while malaria kills one person about every eight minutes – causing almost 20 percent of all deaths among children under five years old.
DeLisi says the US government will continue to invest in the health sector especially on preventable and treatable diseases.
He says the US government seeks to create a strong, efficient, well-functioning system that provides crucial health care and services to all the people of Uganda.
