The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre has doubled entrance fees saying that for the last 10 years, the institution has been operating without increasing fees, yet and the cost of items needed to care for the animals in the zoo has been on the rise.

The executive director of the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre Dr.James Musinguzi says the increment will allow the institution to make an extra Shs2 billion in income.

He says the increase will also help them to improve the services being rendered at the zoo, and in the process, it will help to attract more tourists to visit the centre.

According to the new rates, all African adults will be required to pay Shs20,000 for entrance from Shs10,000, while citizen children will pay Shs5,000 from Shs3,000. School groups will also pay Shs8,000 from Shs4,000 per student.

He says the new changes in the entry fee charge payments will commence effective July this year.

“Effective July 1st 2024, the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) will be adjusting its entry fees to enhance visitor experience and support animal welfare efforts,” said Executive Director of UWEC James Musinguzi on Wednesday.
