Voting in Jinja Municipality East bi-election has started and is going on smoothly at most polling centers.

According our reporter Abubaker Kirunda, voting kicked off at 7am at most centers.

He says queues are seen growing at Spire Road, Iganga road polling stations and Masese where the NRM Nathan Nabeta is expected to vote.

According to the Jinja district returning officer Flavia Mujulizi, polling materials were delivered to the various centers by 6:30am

Meanwhile the Electoral Commission Chairman Badru Kigundu has assured the electorate that all is well and they expect to announce results without delay.

Security has beefed up at all polling centers and according to the Jinja District Police Commander Ben Mubangzi Security at all the different stations is being manned by senior police officers.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant after court nullified the election of NRM’s Nathan Igeme Nabeta over alleged voter bribery and inadequate academic qualifications.

The race has attracted five candidates including NRM’s Igeme Nabeta, FDC’s Paul Mwiru, DP’s Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Riche Osinde Oyo of the UPC and independent Cranima Dhikusooka.
