Cranes improve in FIFA rankings

Uganda has risen four places from 90th to 86th in the November Coca Cola Fifa rankings released this afternoon. The rise is attributed to the Cranes 1-0 win over African Champions Zambia in the return leg of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers despite bowing out 8-9 on spot kicks. Uganda remains the highest ranked nation in the CECAFA region followed by Ethiopia and Sudan, which are tied at 102nd, then Rwanda in 122nd, Burundi 128th, Kenya which dropped two places to 130th and Tanzania in 134th. Kiprotich piped

Uganda’s golden boy Stephen kiprotich has today been piped as a full Assistant Superintendent of Prisons at an occasion held at Luzira Prison. Kiprotich who has been piped with 32 other sports officers has pledged continued service to the Institution and to the country. Internal affairs minister Hillary Onek pledged to move a motion before the Speaker of Parliament to name Kiprotich as Uganda’s ambassador of patriotism. Onek says Kiprotich united the whole country after winning the medal. He has skipped 7ranks from being Prison warder to Assistant Superintendent of Prisons. Ug Cranes arrive in Zambia

With just hours to the much anticipated 2013 Afcon first leg qualifier between Zambia and Uganda at the Levy Mwanawasa national stadium in Ndola,  many Zambians are not happy after tickets sold within hours of going on sale. The price of the ticket was hiked with the VIP going for 400,000 Kwacha, which is about U Shs 200,000 instead of USH100,000. Open stands tickets are going for the equivalent of USh100,000 and 50,000. Meanwhile, The Uganda Cranes have arrived in Zambia ahead of tomorrow’s clash. The team of 18 travelled aboard a chartered Air Uganda Flight.

USPA honors Kiprotich

Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich has today been declared the sports personality of the month of August by the Uganda Sports Press Association. In a rather unusual move, there was no voting and Kiprotich was announced unopposed even before the sports scribes met today. Kiprotich surprised the world when he became Uganda’s second Olympic gold winner beating two Kenyans in the final 42-kilo meter men’s race. He registered 2 hours 8 minutes and 1 second relegating Kenya’s two-time defending world champion Abel Kirui to a silver medal with 2 hours 8 minutes 27seconds and long-time leader Wilson Kipsang to Bronze. Kiprotich is to crowned on Friday at the Oasis Mall at the USPA offices.

Kiprotich is back home!

Golden Boy Stephen Kiprotich has returned home. He has led the victorious Team Uganda from London 2012 Olympic Games. 23-year-old Stephen Kiprotich who won Uganda’s first Olympic gold in 40 years, jetted in at 7:45am aboard British Airways. Kiprotich was received by a number of government officials including education and Sports minister Jesca Alupo, Sports State Minister Charles Bakabulindi as well as senior members of the Sabiny community. The officials are currently addressing a news conference held in the VIP lounge at the Entebbe airport. At 11 o’clock, Kiprotich will proceed to State House Entebbe and will be received by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni to officially welcome and congratulate him upon the significant achievement he has attained for his …
