The African Union Mission in Somalia has stepped up troop deployment in Somalia as elections get underway.
The Force Commander Lt General Osman Noor Soubagleh Soubagleh said AMISOM will provide security during the entire electoral process.
Meanwhile Somalia’s Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team says it will strictly adhere to its set time table for the selection of representatives to the country’s Lower House.
The election of Somalia’s Lower house of parliament has kicked off on Sunday and will run for 17 days, ending November 10.
Addressing a news conference held in Mogadishu, the body’s Chairman Mohamed Abdulle said it will be followed by the election of a new Upper House and presidential elections before the end of November.
He adds that they do not anticipate extending the vote.
