Mayors of the world’s cities attending the UN’s Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador have been asked to avoid pushing for growth based on politics.
According to the mayor of Canada’s second city, Montréal Denis Coderre, national politics is detrimental to the growth of cities especially in the developing world.
Coderre who is also the president of the “Metropolis” group, which represents all of the world’s big cities with populations of over one million says the world is fast becoming a global city.
He says that adoption of the New Urban Agenda will make a difference in achieving the 2030 global Sustainable Development Goals.
