The Judiciary has asked civil society organizations to help in expediting the process of pushing for a transitional justice policy in Uganda.

The policy which is intended to legalize formal means of resolving conflicts has been in draft form for over five years.

Speaking to stakeholders at the ongoing National stakeholder’s forum, the chairman of the transitional justice working group, Justice Lawrence Gidudu says that the policy has met several political blockades, resulting into delays.

Justice Gidudu says that civil society organisations must sensitize the public in conflict-ravaged areas especially on demobilization and acceptance of victims.

The policy calls for establishment of  traditional courts of law, as well as amendments to the Amnesty law.
