The Electoral Commission has today concluded the two day nomination exercise for parliamentary candidates.
In Kampala a total 78 candidates have been duly nominated to contest for the parliamentary seats in Kampala district.
The nomination exercise for Kampala has been adjusted to an unknown deadline to allow more room to handle the overwhelming number of aspirants.
Among those nominated today, is a one Khomas Bukenya a commercial cyclist (bodaboda) whose reason for contesting has caught media attention.
He says he is joining the parliamentary race because he is tired of escorting politicians to their victory.
Other notable nominations for Kampala are Independent Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and FDC’s Nabilah Nagayi Sempala who is seeking re-election for Kampala Woman MP.
She says if re-elected, 2016-2021 will be her last term in parliament.
Nabilah says she will be eying another political office, possibly the Presidency.
In Wakiso, Peter Ssematimba has also been dully nominated for the Busiro East MP seat.
In Kayunga, the district Woman MP and State Lands Minister has today duly been nominated but this time as an independent candidate.
This is after she was trounced in the party primaries that saw Juliet Nalunga taking the NRM flag.
Speaking after nomination, Nantaba said she was happy that she had overcome what she called Mafias who didn’t want her to contest.
On a sad note however, in Kayunga district one person has died and another is admitted to hospital in critical condition.
These were involved in separate accidents while celebrating land’s state minister Aidah Nantaba’s nomination.
Earlier, in Mpigi district a supporter of Kiyingi Bbosa only identified as Jjingo a resident of Nabyewanga also died after he suffered high blood pressure.
