36% of Ugandans still have no access to clean water.
According to the commissioner for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Joseph Eyatu, these are mainly in the districts of Kiruhura, Bugiri, Lyantonde, Ssembabule and the Karamoja sub region among others.
Eyatu says in such districts people walk for over 3kms to access water, while others share water sources with animals thus making them susceptible to diseases.
He says the water ministry currently requires over Shs 600 billion to have adequate water supply across the country in the next five years.
