40bn shillings allocated to restore forest reserves

David Kugonza | June 21, 2018

Government has allocated 40 billion shillings to restore forests reserves in the country.

According to the in charge of Finance and administration at the National forestry Authority Abdul Mubiru, part of the money will be used to demarcate the national central forest reserves, which over the time has been encroached on.

He says, the allocation of the money is important because it is to help the Authority plant more trees in a bid to increase the country’s forest cover, which has been lost over the years.

He says, currently the country’s forest cover has reduced from 4.9 million hectares of forest land to only 1.9 million hectares of forest land.
