43-year old Kabojja Junior School teacher, Godfrey Muwumuza has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment for indecently assaulting a P.7 pupil.
This is after Muwumuza, a resident of Gayaza-Kasangati in Wakiso District, pleaded guilty under a plea bargain agreement between him, prosecution and the victim’s parents.
Prosecution led by Joan Keko and Ivan Kyazze also tendered before Court WhatsApp messages between the victim and his mother on transit between Mbarara and Kampala.
Court heard that the school had organised a trip to western Uganda for P7 pupils, Nuwumuza was among the teachers who escorted them.
Muwumuza was convicted for one count of attempted sodomy and indecent assault.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged incidents occurred on May 4th and 5th, 2025, while Muwumuza and a group of Kabojja Junior School pupils were returning from a school trip in Western Uganda, traveling between Mbarara and Kampala.
It is alleged that Muwumuza, while acting in his capacity as a teacher and person of authority, attempted to perform a sexual act on an 11-year-old male pupil, who is in Primary Seven.
Muwumuza is alleged to have sat next to the same pupil and repeatedly grabbed his hand into his trouser, again attempting to force the child to touch his private parts.
The victim, feeling increasingly unsafe, changed seats and moved to a different section of the bus.
Muwumuza allegedly followed him and continued the same actions, showing persistence in his conduct.
The victim then used his phone to send a distress message via WhatsApp to his mother, detailing the abuse he was experiencing.
The mother, upon receiving the message, promptly reported the incident to police authorities, hence his arrest.
