The 5 acquitted 2010 Kampala terror suspects have today been charged afresh over allegations of terrorism and related conspiracies at the Chief Magistrates Court in Jinja district.

According to the police spokesperson Fred Enanga, The five suspects Omar Awadhi Omar, Mohammad Hamid Suleiman, Abubaker Batemyeto, Dr. Ismail Kalule and Yahaya Suleiman Mbuthia, while at Luzira Upper prisons, allegedly created  documents and materials connected with preparations to facilitate, assist or engage co-conspirators to undertake terrorist acts.

Enanga adds that investigations have begun after the force landed on hand written documents and related materials asking members to conduct hostile reconnaissance around security facilities and other vital installations.

He says the police have fresh evidence of the new plot that connects the suspects to the materials recovered earlier.

The 5 suspects were acquitted by High Court Judge Alphonse Owiny Dollo after prosecution failed to adduce adequate evidence against them, while 8 were handed various sentences ranging from 50 years to life imprisonment.

The group is accused of taking part in the detonating of twin bombs that hit football fans at Kyandondo Rugby Grounds and Ethiopian Village Restaurant in Kabalagala claiming 76 lives while scores others were maimed.
