A group of activists led by human rights lawyer Andrew Karamagi and a one Brian Atuheire have petitioned the speaker of parliament and the appointments committee imploring them to decline the re-appointment of the police chief Gen Kale Kayihura.

Addressing journalists this morning, Karamagi asked that parliament’s appointments committee instead interrogates Gen Kayuhura’s 12 year tenure and his suitability for the position.

The activists accuse Kayihura of being partisan, brutal especially to the media and his failure to improve the welfare of the police force, a claim he has often denied.

Early this week, the media was awash with reports that President Museveni had re appointed Gen. Kale Kayihura as Inspector General of Police for another three year term, placing him at the helm of the country’s law and order agency until 2020.
