African countries experiencing the wrath of Fall Army Worm have been asked to join efforts to wipe it from the continent.

The worm that was first reported in Southern Africa has now spread to other parts of the continent including East and Central Africa.

According to Tom Moyane, the Commissioner South African Revenue Services, the army worm has not only affected food production but revenue as well.

He adds that due to its peculiarity, individual countries cannot handle it separately, thus calling for creation of a consortium to handle this overarching problem.

In Uganda, the Fall army worm has been confirmed in more than 50 districts.

Speaking to KFM earlier, Mr. Okasai Opolot, the Director Crop Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture said that they that they are ready to fight army worm because government had earlier ear-marked Shs 1bn  in anticipation of its spread to Uganda.

Through the ministry of agriculture, government has also embarked on distribution of pesticides to farmers at no cost to help them spray their crop fields.
