The warring parties in the South Sudan conflict have again failed to meet the August 17th deadline to sign a peace agreement.
The latest deadline was set by US president Barack Obama at his recent meeting with African Union(AU) leaders in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The government claims it does not fully understand the agreement, while the opposition is divided over the proposed deal.
Speaking to Voice of America, the leader of the SPLM, Dr Riek Machar, expressed concern that proposals in an agreement to be discussed at the peace talks with President Salva Kiir have been “hijacked” by Uganda.
He was responding to President Yoweri Museveni’s rejection of the IGAD deadline saying more time was needed for further negotiations.
Some of the contentious proposals include that of power sharing between govt and rebels and one that gives 53% of power to Dr Marchar in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile States.
