A senior Lord’s Resistance Army commander, Lt. Col Sam Opio has surrendered to UPDF troops.

According to the UPDF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, Opio was received at Obo in Central African Republic this evening by Col Micheal Kabango.

Opio surrendered with two women, two fighters with three guns and a boy.

This is the third senior LRA commander to be captured.

In April, the UPDF contingent of the African Union Regional Task Force captured Lt Charles Okello  following a battle that took place 20km West of Bakuma.

A week earlier, Second Lt James Onen surrendered to a UPDF detach at Zombo in Arua.
