By Moses Kyeyune & Benjamin Jumbe:

A section of lawmakers opposed to the lifting of the Constitutional age cap for presidential candidates is today expected to appear before the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to answer to allegations of offensive communication and inciting violence.

Police yesterday summoned Members of Parliament (MPs) Mohammad Nsereko, Monica Amoding, Theodore Ssekikubo and Banarbas Tinkasimire to aid investigations on their alleged offense.

According to a September 15th letter from the Director of Criminal Investigations, the MPs are required today for questioning.

However, Buyaga County MP Bernabas Tinkasimire says he cannot be intimidated and will not backdown on resisting the lifting of the age limit for running for president.

Speaking to KFM, Tinkasimire who is currently in Israel says he is ready to face off with the police when he returns in two weeks.

The summoned MPs addressed a news conference recently and vowed not to support the push for amendment of article 102(b) of the constitution to lift the age limit for running for president.

The current age limit is 75 but the changes to the constitution would allow President Yoweri Museveni whose current age is said to be 73 to run for president again in 2021.

Meanwhile an NRM caucus meeting is set for tomorrow ahead of presentation of a motion seeking leave for the introduction of a private members bill, pushing for the amendment of the Constitution by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi.
