Anti-Corruption CSOs task government on witness protection law
By Mike Sebalu
Anti- Corruption Civil Society Organizations in Uganda have asked the government to prioritize the establishment of the witness protection law in the new 5 year National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
The government is currently assessing the current strategy which ended with the 2023/2024 financial year.
The plan provides a framework for implementing the ZTCP, which aims at establishing anti-corruption institutions, preventing corruption, encouraging public participation, fostering integrity and promoting individual commitment.
It also guides stakeholders in responding to corruption according to the Zero Tolerance to Corruption Policy.
In an interview with KFM, Christine Byiringiro the programs Manager Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) said there is need to make the fight against corruption risky as proceeds are taken away and by guaranteeing protection to those who provide the information.
‘’How do we take away the hope of the corrupt? One of the things is one to emphasize that we have policies like the witness protection policies, policies like asset recovery, but also to make sure that beyond having these we implement them’’, said Byiringiro.
