The Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere is championing community involvement in environmental conservation.

He is among the pioneer village environment caretakers who will oversee and promote nature conservation projects.

Archbishop Ssemogerere joins 22 other environment caretakers that will champion environment rejuvenation-related campaigns after undertaking training modules at the Church-founded Bethany Land Institute, Kasana-Luweero Diocese which is undertaking nature conservation-related awareness campaigns through forest cover restoration.

At the recent Plenary Assembly of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) held in Dar salaam (Tanzania), the Clergy benchmarked and upheld Pope Francis’s guidance and concern for mother earth now under attack as a result of human activity targeting the environment.

Statistics from the Ministry of Water and Environment reveal that between 2001 and 2021, Uganda lost 967 hectares of tree forest that is an equivalent of 12% decrease in tree cover since the year 2000.
