Authorities in Busia Kenya have called an urgent security meeting with their Ugandan counterparts to discuss ways of handling any security threat that may result from tomorrow’s general elections.

Busia Resident District Commissioner Michael Kibwikha says the meeting is to be held in Busia Kenya at the invitation of their counterparts.

Kibwikha adds that they have also gazetted 8 emergency resettlement areas at selected schools within the border town of Busia for people who may wish to cross into Uganda should there be a need for a haven.

The meeting comes amid reports of hundreds of foreigners, who have been in Kenya, leaving the country through the Busia and Malaba borders ahead of the highly-contested presidential elections tomorrow.

The majority of the foreigners fleeing are Ugandans, Burundians, Rwandans, Asians, Americans, and the British.

Those fleeing say they fear a repeat of the 2007 post-election violence that broke out shortly after results were announced in favor of the Late Mwai Kibaki ahead of Odinga.

This year’s elections pit Deputy President William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or Kenya Kwanza (Kenya First) and Raila Amollo Odinga of the Azimio La’ Umoja.

The other candidates in the presidential race are George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party of Kenya and Waihiga Mwaure of the Agano party.
