Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) Presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has promised to revamp the fisheries department by recruiting new staff, once elected president next month.
Addressing a rally at Kitobo Landing Site in Kalangala District, Besigye said a big number of staff in the fisheries department extort money from fishermen suspected to be involved in illegal fishing.
He says the officials later sell the impounding fish instead of destroying it.

He also promised to empower fishermen to determine what should be done in the sector.
