The Buganda Road Court Chief magistrate Ronald Kayiizi has released on bail Noah Mitala commonly known as Noah Mutwe after clocking the mandatory 60 days on remand without trial.

Mutwe is charged with inciting violence and spreading hate speech against several members of the first family including the president and his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The magistrate has ordered Mutwe to pay a cash bail of 5 million shillings and his sureties to execute a non cash bond of shs5million  each to ensure his return to court for trial.

Mutwe, a private body guard to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobiwine has also been prohibited from travelling out of Uganda without the court’s permission.

“I have examined the record of the court, I find that the accused person took play on 22nd May 2025, today the 23rd of July 2025 will mark 61 days in custody. The trial has not commenced, the suite has not yet disclosed to the defense, in my view his entitled to monthly bail under the position of article 26 sub article 6B to the constitution of Republic of Uganda as amended,” says Kayizzi .

He is jointly charged with ASP Charles Twine under the Computer Misuse Act where its alleged that the duo used a computer to exchange messages inciting to kill president and his son with a paver.

Twine was last month released on the same bail terms.

However, the NUP Secretary General Lewis Lubongoya insists the bail fee of 5 million shillings is exorbitant for its member.

“To condemn the very prohibitive bail fees because you cannot say that  a person like Noah Mutwe  should pay shs5million   , right as NUP we are going to pay that money like we have been helping many of our people but you can imagine if it was an ordinary citizen where will expect them to get shs5million  from . That is why many people are given bail and they cannot afford bail fees they end up remaining in prison because they cannot afford the bail fees, so we condemn that, ‘’ says Lewis Lubongoya .
