A new study by the National Association of Environmentalists has revealed the presence of brain retarding paint on the Ugandan market.
The study carried out between July and October last year, with tests on 30 cans of insolvent –based paint intended for home used found that most paints on the Ugandan market contained lead.
This is a dangerous chemical that retards brains of children and causes several other health complications in adults.
Godffrey Kamese, a senior programme officer in charge of climate change at NAPE says that National Environment Management Authority should move faster in drafting and consequently developing legislation to ban the manufacture, importation, and distribution of such paint.
NEMA spokesperson Naome Karekaho says they planning to engage manufacturers and also raise awareness about lead.
