Bukenya

There is hope in the proposed constitutional reforms.

Former vice president Prof.Gilbert Bukenya has welcomed the proposals says they are timely.

During his state of the nation address, the President Museveni, told Parliament that the government would table proposals to change sections of the Constitution.

A cabinet sub-committee is overseeing the process that is considering providing for an independent electoral commission, establishment of salaries commission and giving more statutory powers to the president among others.

Bukenya says electoral reforms are what they have been pushing for and so they are welcome.

However,   the opposition Uganda People’s Congress has scoffed at President Museveni’s proposal to amend the constitution.

The party’s secretary general Joseph Bbossa says the President’s proposal is aimed at diverting attention from their ongoing campaign on free and fair elections.

Bbossa says effecting changes to the Electoral Commission without cleaning up the voters register will not yield any fruit.
