The Church of Uganda on Wednesday launched the Focus Month of Children. The month will be celebrated every year in November with the aim of putting faith in action and taking a leading role in supporting, encouraging, and promoting actions amongst Christians and the general public to become ambassadors for ending all forms of violence against children.
Speaking at the launch at Sanyu Babies Home in Kampala where he baptized over 20 children, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Steven Kaziimba Mugalu, noted that in Uganda, the violence against children is becoming another pandemic that requires immediate attention.
He said it is sad that violence has followed children in schools, homes, places of worship, and other communities where they are expected to be safe and protected.
“With this year’s Children’s Month, the Church of Uganda looks forward to the following; increasing participation of the Church leaders and members in prayer, support, care, and advocacy for ending all forms of violence against children in Uganda,” Kaziimba said.
The country director of Dwelling Places, Maureen Muwonge, expressed gratitude for the Church’s move to fight for the voiceless children and pledged support.
Meanwhile, the director of Sanyu Babies Home, Barbara Mutagubya advised parents against abandoning their newborn babies, noting that they need a home for identity.
