Democratic Party president Nobert Mao has petitioned the Constitutional Court seeking orders restraining the Electoral Commission from conducting Parliamentary elections for Gulu Municipality.

Mao also wants court to declare that it was unconstitutional for the commission to compel him to produce a National Identification card before being nominated.

He says the Commission has no powers to retire an entire voters’ register as its mandate is to compile, maintain and update it.

Mao thus wants court to compel the commission to re-instate the voters register utilized for the 2011 general elections for use in the 2016 polls.
