The Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has dismissed as baseless claims that polling stations whose results were not included in the final tally were opposition NUP party strongholds.

The concern has been raised during a press briefing at the Commission head office in Kampala where Justice Byabakama revealed that 83 polling stations were affected due to incidents like ballot stuffing, and un-harmonized figures.

Districts where some results were not included in the final tally include Mukono, Wakiso, Isingiro, Kole, Kotido, Rakai, Ssembabule, Lamwo and Gomba.

Byabakama says only a total of 54,357 voters were affected and that as such this could not in any way significantly affect the final result.

On Saturday 16th January 2021, results from 50 polling stations in Kampala had not been counted by the time Byabakama declared NRM’s Yoweri Museveni, the President-elect after he fetched 58.6 per cent of the nearly 10 million valid votes cast nationwide in the poll.
