The Electoral Commission has petitioned the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, calling for her intervention on the state of its staff welfare.

While meeting the speaker, one of the commissioners Stephen Tashobya told the speaker that the commission is one of the poorly paid government institutions which last had remuneration 18 years back.

He said that all officers starting from chairman down to returning officers are poorly enumerated, and this consequently impact on their performance and honesty.

The speaker has promised to refer the matter to the relevant committee for deeper study.
