Economists have poked holes in plans by the government to take over management of Shs 20b Covid cash relief for teachers in private schools.

This came after the minister for education Janet Museveni last week accused the teachers of being responsible for the delayed release of the money because they have failed to organise themselves in associations to access it.

She said the government was to take the funds back to the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC) where teachers will access it from.

However, speaking to KFM,  Economist and Makerere University economic don Dr Fred Muhumuza said the teachers needed was a relief and not such technicalities of joining associations.

He adds that the government’s proposed move will not solve anything.
