The Electoral Commission has extended the voter‘s register update by five more days and now the exercise will run till 4th May.

Electoral Commission Chairperson Eng. Badru Kiggundu says this is to give an opportunity for those who have not yet updated their particulars in the register to do so. Addressing media, Kigundu said the decision was reached at following the high turnout in the past few days.

The Commission deserted the register used during the 2011 elections, meaning anyone who wants to take part in the elections either as a voter or a contestant must register again.
Kiggundu says citizens should take advantage of the Labour Day public holiday to register.

Also Civil society organizations have welcomed the the decision by the Electoral Commission to extend the National Voters Register Update exercise through till Monday 4th May 2015.

According to a statement from The Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda the extension will provide a chance to those who have not yet checked their voting status to do so and also offer an extra opportunity for those who have not yet registered as voters.

They say this will make the electoral process more inclusive.
