Electoral Commission sets date for Amuru by-election

The Electoral Commission has set November 20th for the by election for Amuru district woman parliamentary seat.

The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Betty Bigombe.

Joseph Biribonwa the deputy Electoral Commission Chairman says the commission will hold a consultative stakeholders’ meeting on October 16th.

Update of the voter register will be done starting from 17th-21st, while display of the updated register will be done from October 21st- November 10th.

Accreditation of accreditation of election observers is scheduled for 6th-17th November.

While nomination will be conducted on November 3 and 4th before campaigns kick off from 6th -18th November.
Biribonwa has told journalists that the exercise is to cost 380 million shillings.

A total of 66,565 voters are expected to take part in the exercise at 112 polling stations.

“Elections will also be held for subcounty directly elected Councillor for Palem Parish and subcounty woman councilor for Pawel Parish”, adds Biribonwa.
