The former Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) Managing Director, Mr Stanely Ssendegeya, 54, has been released on bail after spending five days on remand at Luzira prison over charges of forging academic documents that enabled him secure the aforementioned job.

Sendegeya was released Monday morning by Buganda Road Court Grade one Magistrate Siena Owomugisha.

However, he has been ordered to pay a cash bail of Shs1 million and to deposit his passport before court.

His four sureties including his son, wife, and mother-in-law were ordered to execute a non-cash bond of Shs10 million each as security to ensure his return in court when required.

Ssendegeya was first arraigned in court on November 22, 2023, after his arrest by the State House Anti Corruption Unit on his way to Nakasero Hospital where he allegedly receives daily medication for his stroke.

Prosecution states that Ssendegeya forged a CV purporting that he held a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in the month of July 2020 with intent to deceive.

That during the same month, he gave false information to a recruitment firm; Delloit Uganda Ltd offices at Lumumba Avenue.
He has been ordered to report back to court on December 14, 2023, for mention of the case.
