NRM flag bearer, Godfrey Kabyanga retained his Kasese Mayoral seat after beating his closest rival James Kabakwa of the opposition FDC party with a margin 415 votes.

Kabyanga becomes the first NRM top leader to retain a position in Kasese district after the ruling party lost the six parliamentary seats and district chairpersonship and most district councilors to the opposition FDC party.
 
According to the final tally, Kabyanga garnered 80,935 votes while Kabakwagot 80,522.
 
The Kasese District Registrar Lawrence Mbonigaba declared Kabyanga the winner with 40%.
