By Damali Mukhaye:

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has challenged the government to constitute an independent commission of inquiry into the crimes committed within in police force as an institution.

The call follows the arrest of 7 senior police officers and two foreigners who are said to have connived to kidnap and return the refugees to Rwanda for prosecution without the government’s knowledge.

Addressing journalists at the FDC headquarters in Najjanakumbi, the party’s deputy spokesperson Paul Mwiru said the public had lost confidence in the entire force.

He adds that for government to regain public trust, it should conduct an independent inquiry into the entire force with specific focus on how the cadres are recruited and deployed and promoted.
