A group of FDC youths has gone to court seeking to block the ongoing mass ID registration exercise.

They are opposed to the inclusion of local council chairpersons on the parish verification committee that will work on the data collected before the cards are given out.

They say existing LCs are illegal and cannot be relied on.

They also argue that issues to do with citizenship cannot be determined by local chairpersons saying the mandate lies in the hands of the citizenship and immigration department.

The youths led by Robert Mayanja also say the registration of 16 year-old children contradicts the constitution that sets 18 years as the age of consent.

Mayanja insists that the exercise be put on hold until the irregularities are corrected.
