Government hands over 30 Vehicles to Cultural Leaders

The government through the Ministry of Gender, labour and Social Development (MGLSD) has officially handed over 30 brand new vehicles to Ugandaβs gazetted cultural leaders to empower them in mobilizing their communities for social and economic transformation.
Among the beneficiaries include; Omukama of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, EmorimoriΒ Papa Iteso Paul Sande Emolot, Omukama of Bunyoro Gafabusa Solomon Iguru, Kamuswaga of Kooki Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli, Omusinga of Rwenzuru Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma , Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Nadiope IV among others.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Kololo Independence grounds in Kampala, the Ministryβs head Betty Amongi noted that, cultural institutions play a key role in preserving Ugandaβs social fabric, mediating community conflicts, promoting positive values, and supporting government programs such as household income improvement and ending gender-based violence.
Amongi says, the initiative demonstrates Governmentβs commitment to preserving the countryβs heritage, promote cultural identity, and empowering cultural leaders to effectively.
ββUnder the ministry there supposed to be custodians of values that preserve the identity, which starts with languages, βsaid Amongi Betty.
The launch of the Enhancement program for Traditional Leaders is being held under the theme, βRepositioning cultural Institutions for community mobilization and socio-Economic Transformation.
