Police in Kamwenge district together with the State House health monitoring unit have arrested four suspects over abuse of office and causing financial loss to government.

The five suspects include; Dr. Ivan Mujuni, a medical superintendent, Emmanuel Tumwebonire (district auditor), Turikundembe Sowedi (accountant Caltex fuel station Kamwenge), Christopher Aliganyira (driver to medical superintendent) and David Kiiza (ambulance driver).

The group has been detained over charges arising from the diversion of fuel allocated to Rukunyu hospital for the financial year 2019/2020 after they allegedly inflated vouchers, car mileage, and false accountability.

Vincent Twesigye, the West Rwenzori region police spokesperson says this follows a probe by the State House Health Monitoring Unit that has been conducting a forensic audit in the health department of the district for the month of April to date.

In this first quarter, various health facilities were visited and on three occasions, suspects were arrested on charges of theft and neglect of duty.

Two suspects have since appeared before court over theft of solar batteries from Bunoga health centre 3.
